Farrow & Ball
Farrow & Ball began in Dorset in 1946, when John Farrow and Richard Ball—driven by their love of rich colours and quality materials—joined forces, relying on the support of their wives to establish the company’s early foundations. After building their first factory in Verwood and supplying paints to major clients, the founders eventually sold the business in the late 1960s, prompting a move to Wimborne after a fire destroyed the original factory. While others adopted cheaper, synthetic paints, Farrow & Ball stayed true to its traditional recipes. In the 1990s, new owners Tom Helme and Martin Ephson guided the company into international markets and historic restoration, opening showrooms in London, Toronto, Paris, and New York. The company pioneered eco-friendly, water-based finishes in 2010, expanded its online presence, and now boasts over 60 showrooms worldwide—continuing to combine heritage craftsmanship with modern innovation.
